Hair Loss Causes

Hair Loss Statistics
Going bald is a fact of life for millions of men and women. Adults lose about 100 scalp hairs each and every day. Hair normally lives for around five years. With male pattern baldness these hairs do not always get replaced and gradually bald areas begin to appear. This process can take a long time and the age at which you start to lose hair does not necessarily provide any clues as to how long it will be until you define yourself as bald.

When discussing baldness, which affects an estimated 40 million men and 20 million women in the United States, the topic is generally about a hereditary condition called androgenetic alopecia. Ninety-five percent of hair loss is of this variety.

Male-pattern baldness refers to the upward retreat of the hairline from the forehead, as well as an expanding area of fallout from the crown of the head. In the end, all that might be left is a horseshoe-shaped fringe around the sides and back of the head.

Female-pattern baldness, which recently has received more attention since Pharmacia& Upjohn began packaging and marketing Rogaine separately for women, refers to a diffuse pattern of hair loss throughout the scalp.

Research continues in search of ways to treat androgenetic alopecia and allow hair to sprout in barren scalps. But, at this time, all you can do, if you're a man, is to look at your fathers head and your maternal fathers head to see how they fared, because chances are you'll wind up with a similar fate. In addition, female-pattern baldness can be passed down from mother to daughter.

"I think it's just the luck of the draw what your genetics are," says Allan Kayne, M.D., a dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. In male and female-pattern baldness, the culprit is something called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, which is derived from androgen, a male hormone. Circulating through the bloodstream, androgen is converted to DHT by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. Those with greater enzyme activity have more DHT binding to hair-follicle receptors. If flooded by DHT, the follicles sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing regrows, and the follicles eventually wither away.

Normal Hair Loss
There are a number of reasons why men start to go bald, but if you are a man between the ages of about 20 to 45 and you start to lose scalp hair, then the chances are 95 percent certain that you are experiencing male pattern baldness. As the term suggests, male pattern baldness follows a typical sequence or pattern. Hair loss can start in different areas but is usually at the temples and/or on the crown of the head. Initial thinning of hair progresses over a number of years and may lead to total baldness but more typically loss of hair over the top surface of the head.

The Cause of Male Pattern Baldness
Most men are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. It is the effect of hormones on the hair follicle that produces male pattern baldness. Testosterone, a hormone that is present in high levels in males after puberty, is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. DHT has an adverse affect on the hair follicles. Acting on a hormone receptor on the hair follicle it slows down hair production and produces weak, shorter hair, sometimes it stops hair growth from the follicle completely. This process gradually depletes your stock of hair and is normal hair loss.

Diseases and Conditions Related to Hair Loss
Hair loss and going bald is something many men have to adjust to as they get older. There are, however, a number of diseases and conditions that can cause hair loss.

Illnesses and conditions that can cause male hair loss include:

  • High fevers associated with infections or the flu.
  • Thyroid and pituitary problems.
  • Some medical treatments; radiotherapy, side effects of medications such as interferon, chemotherapy and steroids can all cause hair loss.
  • Stress.
  • Psychological problems such as trichotillomania where some people pull out their hair.
  • Exposure to dangerous chemicals such as thallium acetate.
  • Fungal infections of the scalp.
  • Ringworm.
  • Burns.
  • Alopecia Areata Universalis, where the whole body is affected, or totalis where the whole of the scalp becomes bald.

If hair loss is caused by disease there are usually other symptoms that accompany hair loss. If you believe your hair loss may be caused by disease go check it out with your doctor.

Other causes of hair loss include; poor nutrition (inadequate protein or iron in your diet) and certain medications used to treat high blood pressure, depression, arthritis, gout, etc. Women often lose hair due to birth control pills, pregnancy, menopause, hormonal changes and imbalances in the thyroid gland.

Diabetes and lupus can cause hair loss. Hair loss is common for people that undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatements. Chemicals used to bleach, dye, tint and straighten hair can contribute to hair loss and thinning hair.

TopLace vs The Other Hair Replacement Companies

There are several other internet mail order companies that compete with Toplace in the real human hair replacement business. Toplace offers real human REMY hair - only the best! REMY hair from TopLACE is softer and silkier than processed hair and lasts much longer. And we've eliminated all bases that are "yesterdays technology" such as fine mono.

Toplace offers only the most realistic and undetectable bases such as Super Fine Swiss (SFS) or French lace the current state of the art. Other bases are just not as undetectable and realistic as lace.

Competitors include Richard Farrell (Farrell Hair.com), Hair Direct (hairdirect.com), Cool Piece (coolpiece .com) , Advent (adventhair.com) , and Hollywood Lace (hollywoodlace.com). All are priced higher and don't provide the quality and same high level of customer service that Toplace provides.

Farrell's hair prices are so high that they offer financing plans through Capital One - it's like buying a car! Farrell Hair (farrellhair.com) also states that they offer the only hair replacement system ever recommended by the American Hair Loss Association (AHLA). This is simply not true! Toplace is also endorsed by the American Hair Loss Association and proudly displays their logo on our websites homepage. Farrell Hair also states that it has been voted the "Best in the World" for 9 Consecutive Years, however he conveniently fails to disclose who supposedly "voted" him the best! Who conducted the voting and how it was done? Richard Farrell please answer these questions! His hair pieces cost several thousand dollars each, that's why he has to offer financing, the average person can't afford the cost of his hair systems.

Farrell repeats the mantra that you get what you pay for and that nobody can match his quality. We have many former Farrell Hair customers that have switched to Toplace! Why? Because Toplace provides even better quality for a fraction of the cost!

Check out Hair Direct (hairdirect.com). A single system costs $499. Only if you commit to a contract to buy 30 systems per year (one less than every 2 weeks) can Hair Direct match the price of a single unit from Toplace. Who needs 30 hair systems per year? Hair Direct has a general discussion hair loss forum/blog like Toplace but has nowhere near the participation from customers around the world that the Toplace hair loss forum has.

Advent (adventhair.com) charges $575 for a single unit of synthetic hair. Human Remy hair is an additional $100 fee. Advent (adventhair.com) has no hair loss forum/blog. Advent has no toll free number to call for advice and consultation.

Hollywood Lace (hollywoodlace.com) sells the first piece for $199 but all purchases after that are $299. Hollywood lace also has no hair loss forum/blog.

In fact, nobody provides better quality, better customer service, and the cheapest prices like Toplace! Toplace has the most active hair loss forum/blog in the world. The wealth of knowledge from the hair loss forum/blog comes from actual hair wearers and is reason enough to choose Toplace. Many people try Toplace for the low price and have low expectations because of the "you get what you pay for" mentality. They are shocked at the quality and quickly become loyal Toplace customers. You shouldn't have to sacrifice your lifestyle in order to improve your appearance with a real human hair system. Try Toplace - you'll see for yourself - firsthand.

Cheap hair. Best quality. Best hair loss forum/blog. Best customer service. Worldwide service with affiliates in Europe and Japan.

Remy Hair

Remy hair is cut from one persons head and sewn in the same direction hair naturally grows. The cuticle is just like nature intended it to be. Texture is silky soft with subtle waves. Cuticle hair is created by careful processing which leaves the cuticle layer of the hair in place. The result is a superior hair item that colors beautifully - it has the highlights and natural shading just like your hair. The majority of human hair sold in the industry is non-cuticle hair. The hair cuticle has been stripped by using an acid-bath. Remy hair is stronger. Nicest feel to the touch. It is soft and has a finer feel to it. Remy hair lasts longer, keeps its vitality and elastisity, is easier to comb and it curls better. The most impressive advantage of Remy Hair is it is tangle-free and has a longer "life" cycle. TopLace Hair Replacement Systems uses Remy Hair as standard from the factory.

Lace Front or All Lace Base Hair Pieces

Many people are conditioned to seeing ads from hair replacement companies for "lace front wigs" or "lace front hair pieces". The reason is that "lace" gives you the best and most undetectable hairline and that's why they use lace for the front - there's nothing better! Many people don't even realize that you can buy a hair replacement "unit" or "wig" made ENTIRELY of lace!

Toplace offers just that AND at a discounted price! Toplace offers all-lace units for under $200.00!

I even spoke with a noted hair transplant surgeon that has written a book on hair loss and he asked me if Toplace units had lace fronts! You see, most hair replacement companies either offer "fine mono" or "plastic mesh" bases or some other type of cheap material. And some of the better companies offer lace fronts attached to a fine mono or mesh base. The truth is that "fine mono" and "mesh" are "yesterdays technology" - they were popular about 7 years ago before lace was introduced.

Places like Hair Club for Men still use them today as do many other companies. With the development of lace technology these bases became outdated and obsolete long ago. Lace, either "Super Fine Swiss" or "French lace", is the current "state-of-the-art." material. There is NO finer material. It's softer and more undetectable than "fine mono". It's not stiff - we (in the business) call fine mono a "screen base" - like in window screen. Once the normal body oils mix with the lace you can't see the base - it looks like the hair is growing right out of your scalp! And you can't feel the base - it's so soft you'll feel the softest breeze blow across your scalp. You'll forget you're even wearing a hair piece!

Any customer that has tried a lace unit will never go back to "fine mono" or any of the "outdated" materials. And why settle for only a "lace front"? Why not get the BEST available - the entire base made of lace and be totally undetectable! With discount pricing from Toplace you can get the best and pay far less. It's not always true that "you get what you pay for". This is especially true in the hair replacement business. Try either "Super Fine Swiss lace" or "French lace" - it's truly the best base material available anywhere! You'll love it!

Step 1:
Many people have asked what the
"mirror slide" is in regards to cleaning their hair piece. In response I put this tutoral together, as in anything, please use restraint and be very gentle with your hairpiece, it is always good to have 2 or more spares. Here we have a dirty gluey mess.
Step 2
Step 2:
Take a mirror or a piece of glass
Step 3
Step 3:
Place your piece bottom side down against the glass and slowly slide it
Step 4
Step 4:
Press firmly but gently a few times until the glue appears on the mirror
Step 5
Step 5:
It will leave streaks like this
Step 6
Step 6:
Use a citrus or a cleaning agent like "Desolvit" to clean the mirror

5. How do you bleach your own knots on a lace hair replacement system?

We get many requests on the forum about "How can I bleach my own knots?

Below are some quotes from board in a condensed form, PLEASE USE CAUTION!, the manufacturer should bleach knots for you, if unhappy with a lace product send it back to be bleached

Bleaching Knots
From: INSIDER
Comments
Unfortunately bleaching knots on hair replacements is subject to type of hair used and what type of knot is used in the front of your hairpiece. I'm assuming you have some form of lace or fine welded monofilament net, if not then there is no need to bleach the knots as there would be not visible effect or benefit.

Because most hairpieces are made with Indian hair, and colored with fabrice dye it is necessary to remove the fabric dye from the knots with a fabric dye remover. Once this is successfully accomplished, you would then proceed to apply bleach to the knots. If you have European or Russian hair in your pc., then you need only apply bleach to lighten the knots. HOWEVER, bleaching the knots should be performed by a qualified, experienced technician other wise you may end up with strange colored hair, eg., purple, green, blue etc. and then you'll have even more corrective work to do. Go to someone who really knows what they are doing and have previously bleached knots.

It is really not a problem. I did it and really liked the results. Go to a drug store and purchase a bleaching kit - in with all the hair colors. The one I bought was Blonde Bleaching Kit for Men by Jerome Russell. Mix it according to directions (I just mixed a small amount) and apply to the underside of the lace with a Q-Tip. Do not press or try to force the bleach into the lace. I just followed the timing directions with the kit. If it says 20 to 30 minutes - just go for 20. The knots disappeared and about 1/32 of an inch of the hair coming out of the lace was lightened, really making the hair much more natural looking - as if growing directly out of your head. Good luck.

I was successful at bleaching my own. I first used RIT fabric dye remover available in just about every decent grocery store, then used Maxim bleach blonde after that. Worked great. Try it first on some test hairs to see about how long it will take depending on your color specs.

Adventures in knot bleaching

Greetings,
As I posted before, I have a coolpiece that came with the knots unbleached. I tried the method that Michigan Baldy used to bleach his knots- I used the loreal bleach blond kit and waited 30 minutes after I mixed it to apply it to the knots (through the under-side of the piece). I washed it off after 15 minutes. The results? No dice. The knots were lightened, somewhat, but still very visible. I then went out an bought a bleach blond kit from Feria. This time, however, I applied it immediately after mixing, and left it on for 40 minutes. I applied it VERY liberally, making sure that the bleach foam went all the way through the lace to the knots. Because it is a foam, it pretty much stays put and doesn't travel down the hair shaft to ruin the rest of the hair. The result? Success! The lace was fine and the knots were almost completely invisible. I will probably do one more round of this after I get the piece cut it to make it perfect (I am used to my Farrell's- for all the problems I have had with them, they do manage to bleach the knots pretty damn good). The bottom line is that I don't believe that the lace is damaged by the bleach at all- I have a 64 base with an 18 front, and it was unscathed after 40 minutes of full strength bleach. As always, your results may vary. My only complaint is that coolpiece/toplace should be able to bleach all the knots successfully, the first time, if you order it that way. But for $300/$165 I'm not going to complain (much better price/same look as the 2 Farrell Ultra Minimal's that I bought for $2800). Good luck to all,
Kilgore

DO NOT use this product to get highlights!! I have been a long-time fan of L'Oreal haircolor (Feria, anyone?), but this kit is terrible. The orange highlights are a result of the cheap bleach they use AND the amount of time they have the highlight cream stay in. Especially on color treated hair (which, if you follow the directions, you now have!!!). I have been using the Feria Extra Bleach Blonding kit for a couple of years to highlight my own hair (color-treated) and I have to leave that product in for AT LEAST 35 minutes to get a very pale, NON yellow-orange highlight. I don't know what I was thinking with this kit and any hopes of the highlights coming out right!!! The sad part, is the base dye color was actually quite nice (I did Mocha-something?) - and different from colors they have in their other lines. NOT RECOMMENDED. Eeeeek - especially for the $20!!!
Crabtwix

Kilgore,
Thanks for the info. I could use a little more info about your procedure for knot bleaching. What do you use to apply the bleaching solution to the lace? Could you use a haircolor brush in order to cover a lot of area in a short amount of time? Also, many have written about using a fabric remover like the kind from Rit before applying the bleach. Did you find that necessary or is that a waste of time? Any others can throw in their input as well.
Thanks,
dino

Dino,
I used a q tip to apply the bleach, which actually is a type of foam. I applied it liberally to the underside (read: alot) so that it would work it's way to all the knots. I thought about using the RIT stuff as well, but was afraid of what it would do to the lace. I think the keys to my success were
A) using the bleach immediately after mixing it (dont let it wait) and
B) I left it on for 40 minutes (it doens't hurt the lace- well #18 lace that is.
Like I said before, I plan on doing it one more time to make sure I get them all. As for the guy that posted about Feria, I didn't have a problem with it... we're not using it for highlights anyway.
Kilgore

dino
The problem I see in using a q-tip is that it would probably take me an hour to bleach each knot in a unit of my size. By the time I bleached the last knot, I would have had to remove the bleach from the first knots. If anyone can think of something to apply the bleach that covers more surface area, I'd be interested in hearing. Would a haircolor brush be okay to use? My other question is about washing the bleach out after you are done. I assume you rinse out the bleach with the lace facing up so you don't get backwash. But is there any bleaching of the hair that occurs when the bleach is washed through the lace?

rugmeister
re: knots bleaching
not that I've tried this or any kind of bleaching, but what about a foam paint brush? It's got way more surface area than a Q-tip. You can pick those up at any hardware store. They're cheap so you can trim it smaller if need be.
just a thought,

Re: re: knots bleaching
With high density hairpieces bleaching of the knots is less of a issue as you cant see them, I have ordered 100% plus density for some people and I would have needed a lawnmower to get to the knots LOL.

6. How should I shampoo and condition my hair piece?
Step 1
Step 1:
After removing the glue and tape residual, rinse under medium warm running water, then in a bowl of clean warm water add some shampoo, I am using Prelude.
Step 2
Step 2:
Swish the piece around gently.
Step 3
Step 3:
Take out and rinse under running water until clear.
Step 4
Step 4:
Place in another bowl of clean warm water, add conditioner, I am using ConditinerII, let it soak for a few minutes, rinse again under running water until clear.
Step 5
Step 5:
Put on a form and comb out and let dry, spray on Velvasil, which is a leave on conditioner with sunscreen.

7. Hair piece glue tips
Take a tiny piece of not-very-sticky tape and put it in the middle of your piece. Then spray a little alcohol on your head, and line it up in the front. Because of the alcohol, you have a little time before the hold kicks in. Then press down with a towel to get a decent hold on the small piece of tape. Next use an eyliner pencil to lightly trace around the hairline. Then flip the piece up and secure it back with clips. Put on the glue, not worrying if it gets a bit over the line. Put on as many coats of glue as you like. Dry with a hairdryer.

Gently lay the lace down into the glue. Using the flat edge of a comb, press the lace down. Then, using a Q-tip with a little alcohol on it, clean up the edge, making sure you don't lift up the front, and there are no hairs stuck in the glue. Then remove the tiny piece of tape from the middle, and glue or tape down the back.

It sounds like it takes a long time, but after practice, I have it down to about 10 minutes.

8. Hair piece styling tips
  • When drying the hair with a hair dryer use only warm air never have the blow dryer on maximum heat.

  • If using styling aids such as Gels, Mousses, Hair Laquer, Etc. look for the ones that are Alcohol free.

  • Use the blow dryer on the coolest setting only long enough to arrange the hair into the desired style. Think of the blow dryer as a brush and not as a dryer. DO not continue blow drying the hair after that and especially don't blow it totally dry as this causes the matted, molded (wiggy) look. Let the hair air-dry the rest of the way and then brush it.

  • Only use brushes that have flexible bristles with cushions on the ends. The cushions will help prevent the bristles from snagging the holes in your lace which could cause a tear. I have been using a hair dryer that has a little button on the side for cool air drying. Its called "cold shot". I don't have to use any heat now for drying my hair.

  • Products from Mastey which contain NO ALCOHOL can be used as styling aids

  • Mastey's Fixe Finishing Spray for Fine, Thin Hair For All Day
Style Support

Fix - is an exceptional finishing hair spray formulated to provides instant lift and style support to fine, thin hairs without added weight. Offers instant hold and shine to your style for all-day support. Superior for root lifting and finger styling, it provides an extra margin of hold whenever needed. Holds the shape of the hair even after multiple brushing. Permits easy re-styling and re-spraying. Contains Vitamin B5 and The Natural Moisture Factor for real hair moisture. With sunscreen. Also Herbal Essences Spray Hair Gelle is another good product.

As always, Artec products are great for fake hair. They have a water-based "Texture mousse" in a pump container that is really nice, and there's also "Texture spray" which does contain alcohol but is very light and doesn't darken the hair or weigh it down.

There's another blending tool that is real handy for blending your system into your own hair I think its called a blender. It looks like a small comb with a razor blade in the center. All you do is scrape around the sides and back of your system where it meets your own hair and it chisels off hair and blends it into you own perfectly...WORKS WONDERS!

Finally, if you've got a system, you absolutely HAVE to have one of those famous black wood "Paul Mitchell Brushes". Best tool for styling systems out there.

TopLace Hair Replacement Client Testimonials

Hello John, look, what Debbie made out of a stockpiece (after I gave her my template) in England. If you want, take and use them for the website.

Strange, but true words - last weekend (at the convention in England) and TopLace changed my life.

Thank you & best regards,

I have some really mixed emotions about bad looking rugs mainly because I feel the hair companies greed is what caused the stigma associated with wearing. For years, they in my opinion, took advantage of every poor guy that simply wanted to improve his looks. I know it held me back from wearing for years and I'm sure there are going to be new people right now that read this and are nodding their heads in agreement. I researched wearing for over a year before I came upon Top Lace's forum. Sorry but I didnt trust anyone , there is no way I was ever going to be one of those poor guys walking around with a muskrat glued to my head. I too thought the only way to get a good piece was to pay thousands. I looked into the hair clubs and heard enough bad stories that it almsot became a phobia for me. I'm not about to make fun of anyone that doesnt know any better or doesnt have the financial ability to do this thing right. Nope I blame the scum sucking vulture hair companies for not only for their greed but for producing the garbage they put out and then ridiculously overcharging for it. Had it not been for this forum and the people here to lead me in the right direction maybe that could have been me you were laughing at and thats just not acceptable. lol

Funny part for me is so many of us wear so well that we look better than the guys with full heads of hair.

Just writing to tell you how much I appreciate your services. I have been using you for a couple of years now after 15 years of expensive salons with inferior products. It is nice to know that I can afford to switch out units before they fade and are obviously worn! Your services are A+++ in my book! Keep up the GREAT work!

Dennis

Just wanted to say thanks to John for getting me my order and let anyone who hasn't taken the plunge with Toplace to do so ASAP. The quality of my two new pieces is awesome. They were spot on with the specs. Prior to TL I was spending very close to $4000 per year with transitions Intl. (not 50% of the quality of TL) What a waste! Thank you John and BA. What would i do without you? (and Debbie!)

Sincerely,
Jason

I HAVE SEEN FARRELL'S WORK AND THEY ARE GOOD. i CHOOSE TOPLACE EVERY TIME MORE NON-DETECTABLE AND DURABLE YOU DO NOT NEED TO COMPETE WITH FARRELLS WORK - YOU ARE THE BEST.

Albert - Well Known Hair Stylist

I have been serviced by a company called JA Alternatives for about 10 years now. I like their locations and staff very much, but their prices are ridiculous.

JA charges clients by contract. You have to order 4 hair replacements at a time. You have to sign their contract, which legally binds you to paying for all 4 on a schedule. They are close to $1000 each! Add to that the monthly charge of $105 for a haircut and re-bonding. Not to mention that their "lace" product loses 75% of it's hair within 8-12 weeks, so you are going thru replacements costing over $4000 a year.

I am on disability with chronic health issues, so I am living on 60% of my former income. Not only can I not afford JA anymore, but I found that your quality is even better. Your color-matching has been far better, and the replacements I got from you have lasted twice as long as theirs! The hair is just as soft and shiny and high quality. Overall I could not be more satisfied and grateful for your services.

Take care,
Barry N.

Re: How much money have you saved since finding Toplace?$$$$$$$?

I have been ordering with Toplace for about 3-4 years or so. I save around $3,000 a year. I was with transitions who charged me $2,200 for 3 crummy mono w/poly side pieces and bi-tri weekly "attachment services" at $60 a pop, plus their crummy products. Thank you Toplace!

Re: How much money have you saved since finding Toplace?$$$$$$$?

I will say Toplace saves me 50% of what the club costs. Plus way better hair systems and 20 hours of drive time per year + 12 hours of service time.

Re: How much money have you saved since finding Toplace?$$$$$$$?

I just wanted to let you know that I am completely satisfied with my first hair system; actually, toplace has given me the first hair system that not only looks natural and real to sight but also when you touch it; I mean this system surpassses any system I have ever got and that includes systems from hair club for men, hair direct, and a few other local places I used to buy from.........what is so great about the super fine lace system that I got is that the thickness of the perimeter going all around the base is the same and you cannot even feel it; I had always got systems that only felt real to touch just in the front of the base but not around the sides and back.......well your super fine lace system exceeded my expectations and I am happy to say I will be a returning customer and I feel like I have finially after all these years of frustration found the right system and company to buy my systems from. Also, I wanted to let you know that Debbie's cut in of my system and the way she did everything was top notch as well; toplace and splitends are a great team and the quality I got from both of you is just incredible; thanks again and I will be contacting you again soon to reorder.

James

I have worn hair for a while, I have not ordered from Toplace but sent my info to John to get my first order right.

I had no Idea that you could order hair this way, the hair clubs make it seem so technical and mysterious and I did figure out that it was not at all that. I was always unhappy with the results from a hair salon. I ALWAYS had to "fix" my hair when I went home and because of that I learned how to handle it, how to trim a cut that was not right, how to pluck the hairline. I thought there was somenting wrong with me because they all said how "GREAT" I looked after an appointment. I thought I looked like a Jack-ass.....

Since I have been reading this forum, I learned and actually did highlight and then bleach the knots and I can't believe how much better this hair looks. I got a lot of the products recomended from this forum and now the hair looks newer, softer and just a lot fresher. WHY can't people that do this for a living get this stuff on their program???? I want to be free of anybody doing anything. I know what looks best for me. I know what problems I have had in the past and I know now that I can fix them. All a person has to do is spend some time on this forum and everything that was not working out-dryness, bad bonding, fading, visible knots, one color helmet head, can be fixed and apparently we are better at it then the professionals.

John,
Well I am officially a TopLace wearer! And I will say first hand, that it is by far the best quality product I have seen. What an incredible service you run. Fast, affordable, and friendly. A winning combination. Thanks for the great work. Feel free to use me as a reference/testimonial anywhere you need me. I will be an exclusive customer from now on!

Great job,
Omar Baig

I was wearing crap hair for over 30 years until I found Toplace about a year and a half ago. I learned absolutely NOTHING those first 30 years.

Re: former FARRELL's client

Welcome. You have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.Top Lace is the best.Hands down!!

stet

Its nothing new, or unique to farrell. It is standard. toplace can make the piece anyway you want it.. with poly sides, all poly, combo. super fine swiss. french. injected skin, knotted skin.. varying thickness.. everything at farrell you can get here and more. The only thing you will not find here that Farrell has, is a ridiculous price. There are many people on there who are X Farrell clients and X HCM clients etc.. They have seen both systems and choose these not only for the price, but the quality as well.

Just browse the pictures and u will be amazed. There are many photos on this forum.. Look up JAKE, MB, Sesster. GEL. These guys have shown whats possible with hair systems.

Xeon

AND TOPLACE DOES SELL THE BEST LACE FOR THE BEST PRICE, HANDS DOWNS!!!

THEY ALSO THROW IN FOR FREE, THE BEST ADVICE, BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE BEST FORUM!!!!

I'M UNAWARE OF ANY COMPANY (NOT JUST HAIR REPLACEMENT) THAT HAS STAFF AVAILABLE 24/7, 365!

I DOUBLE-DOG DARE YOU TO PROVE ME WRONG!!

Re: What kind of effect has wearing had on your personality?

Confidence through the roof (Why? Because I'm more youthful looking). I talk to chicks much more (Why? Because they all now seem more interested). I dress better (Why? It makes you want to... it's like a kick start for improving your life).

My life has improved dramatically because of toplace. It's like losing weight... on the same lines of it... I lost 25 pounds and felt similar to how I felt when I put a TL on my head.

Re: To the veteran wearers of hairpieces - any regrets?

Only regret is I didn't do it sooner. Also when I was your age, they didn't have anything that looked even close to what Toplace has to offer today!

Tony

Re: To the veteran wearers of hairpieces - any regrets?

I am 27 years old, I for one do not regret it at all. In fact, im really happy that I found it. I wouldnt know what I would have done without it. Either spent 1000s at a salon or shaved my head and looked terrible. The shaved head thing doesn't work for everyone. You have to have the right face, and a perfect shaped head.

Xeon

Re: To the veteran wearers of hairpieces - any regrets?

I don`t understand how some can have regrets.....Well i have been wearing for 6 weeks now....I wish i had discovered this long ago.....I am 38....There is nothing to it...Template and color right on the money. To be very honest here....Looks and feel just like my hair when i had it.Looks fantastic.....As for releasing and attaching.....Piece of cake....You live and learn.....Just like anything else...practice makes perfect....Release....spray citrus on piece...clean scalp....mirror slide piece...then condition it....put near fan to dry....shower....then attach again....and i am good to go......Nobody knows a thing.....I got everybody fooled.

Vacation Update

Since there have been so many questions of late in regards to if there are any limitations on what you can do with the hair, I thought it would be a good time to post this.

I am currently on vacation (Been here 2 weeks) and where I am the weather is VERY hot! I have been getting 1week+ holds and been walking long distances, seeing the sights, swimming, spending 3 - 4 days at a time sharing the bathroom with other people and I have not had a single problem. I'm on day 5 with an attachment now and the hold is incredibly strong.

If you attach properly it is just like your own hair...you dont even think about it. I have looked the best I have looked in a very long time in some of these vacation shots we have been taking (will upload a few when I get back) and have been in pretty much every lighting condition with no problem. Nobody even glances at my hair and why would they? It looks normal...actually BETTER than normal because I style it - :p

Wearing hair is easy as long as YOU make it easy is what I have learned. This vacation has been nothing but a blessing for me because it has allowed me to really see if there are any limitations to wearing, and I dont know about others but for me there are none.

Re: who says only rich guys can afford HR

i used to think you had to have loads of money to afford to do this, then i found this site.

i work part time in a restaurant(for now). my income is like $800 a month and still i'm able to have a full head of awesome hair.

thank you toplace.

Chad

Re: who says only rich guys can afford HR

That's great Mike, you fell into this hairwearing thing at a right time because not too long ago, everybody needed indeed lots of money and most of the time the quality was much less...

Today, even guys with more money are migrating towards Toplace and similar companies by principle, it's a feeling like we no longer want to be fooled anymore.

Enjoy your cheap hair - hehe

Hans

Re: you almost have the answer to your question in your own message when you write that to some the results seem acceptable.

Imagine going through all the hassles and expenses for something that is just 'acceptable' and that is very temporary because the hair behind and around the transplants keep thinning.

When I started balding at 23, I took action immediately and I wouldn't have been happy with something just 'acceptable', I wanted lots of hair, just like I used to have and I was dreaming of a long life with lots hair that I can style the way I want... anytime I want.

And so getting into the hairpiece thing was one of the best decision of my life and since then, hairpieces keep getting better and cheaper.

I'm happy and I feel so good about myself which is a nice bonus to it all.

Hans

Re: returning from concealors

I went thru the whole gamut, transplants, rogaine, shampoo, concealors etc etc, You know what? I was so preoccupied with all that crap that I now look back & laugh, I actually spend less time on my hair now with a system than most people do with real hair & it looks dam good!Once you understand that the systems of today aren't the old albatross systems that look like some dead animal is stuck to your head,& are very complimenting to your overall appearance, it's a breeze , so why wouldn't you wear? it's all about accepting what you have & what you can do with whats out now & if these systems would have been around 20 yrs ago ,the amount of $$$$$$$$ & more importantly time I would have saved would have probably been able to buy a house if not a down payment!

hairmiester

Re: returning from concealors

the reality is that your real hair situation will never get better. It will only get worse. Once you accept and understand this you will be able to spend all you energy on living your life with a hair system and believe me, it's great because you'll feel free from worries and you will also have the freedom to wear what you want, as you want. We can have pretty much a total control on how we want our hair when we wear. Today, there are so many possibilities.

At the age of 23 this forward thinking got a hold of me and I plunged into hair wearing right away without ever looking back. And I have no regrets at all.

Believe me, it's a waste of time trying to work out you hair when you are balding. There are no 'products' solution to it except for a hair system.

Hans

I'm so damned happy

wow i cant believe it. I had my first cut it yesteday and w still wasnt sure I wanted to do this until it all came together yesterday afternoon. I used Didi in nyc for the cutin and she was absolutely great, I told her what i wanted to achieve in color and style and she worked with me all the way and used her own creativity to pull it off. this was a stock piece that BA had, wasnt my color, it was a very light brown vs my medium brown hair. Didi liked me blonde so she left the entire front blonde and blended the rest into my color. I got so many compliments last night from friends (all women), the guys knew i changed my style, hair color etc but none of them knew it was a piece. One of the women insisted her husband (also bald) come to the bar to see it. He's going to be a toplace customer very soon. lol

Re: oh one more thing

Debbie you are the greatest!!!! I feel reborn, I purposely kept my expectations low and even brought a hat with me just in case. lol needless to say I aint ever wearing a hat again.

oh, one quick story about last night. I took a couple of my girl friends out for late dinner. (not girl frinds in real sense, just friends) anyway I went outside to have a cigarette. Im standing outside and a chick that was sitting in bar area comes out and says "wow, who are you".

I was so shocked I just laughed and said Im new here. This is gonna be so cool, I always had to work so hard for women. lol

Hair Replacement F.A.Q.'s

Q: How can this be done through the mail?
A: Ordering a hair piece through the mail is simple and easy. Salons and hair clubs charge exorbitant prices for the simple process of making a template (some hair clubs don't even bother to make a template - they just modify a stock unit). Then they charge you an astronomical price for the hair piece. Ordering through the internet is quick and easy and all the steps are explained in our Printable Order Guide - you'll save hundreds of dollars on each order! And no pressure to buy or sign a contract! Once the template is made you send it to Toplace along with your hair sample. After that it's just selecting a density, hair length and base options. The process is simple and with electronic ordering now available on the website you only need to make 7 selections.

Q: What is electronic ordering?
A: We offer state-of-the-art technology that allows you the ability to custom design your unit from the privacy of your own home. Just go to our website and select your specs from our drop down menus in the Order Section. It's quick and easy. You will get an email confirmation of your order including all specs. You will also receive an email receipt confirming your payment through Paypal.

Q: What's the advantage to 'doing it yourself' versus going to a hair club or salon?
A:Plenty! You'll save a ton of money! Plus you'll be able to do your own maintenance whenever you need it - not when you're able to make an appointment and get in to a stylist. There's no magic to attaching, removing and cleaning a hair piece. But hair clubs and salons don't want you to know how to do this---they want your business. With Toplace you're in control of the process - not someone else.

Q: Why Toplace?
A: Several reasons:

  • Best price - we keep our overhead low and pass the savings on to the customer.

  • Best quality - we've selected only the best factory to provide our hair pieces. We use only human Remi hair that is both soft and healthy looking. Plus we've narrowed down the vast array of base styles to only the best and most undetectable - no need to experiment with inferior quality bases - because we don't offer them.

  • Best Information - we provide all the information you need to order, maintain and clean your hair piece. Our Public Discussion Forum is the largest forum in the world dedicated exclusively to hair wearers. Posters from around the world post tips, suggestions, and recommendations for other hair wearers to learn and enjoy. These are real customers that have years of experience in wearing hair and not some so-called 'hair technician' that's never even worn a hair piece.

Q: How long will it take to receive my hairpiece after I mail in the template and hair sample and complete the Electronic Order Form?
A: Approximately 4-6 weeks for domestic orders. Selecting Priority Processing moves your order ahead of others at the factory and reduces the time by 7-10 days. Selecting FedEx overnight delivery also reduces the delivery time by 2 days. Of course international orders take longer depending on location.

Q: What is your guarantee?
A: Customer Satisfaction Policy for Custom and Inventory Hair Pieces

Toplace will remake or refund any custom system that is not made to your original specifications. Toplace will fully refund the cost of a stock unit if it doesn't meet the customer's needs. The customer will have 30 days upon receipt of the unit to return the unit to Toplace. The unit must be returned to us in the same condition in which it was received by the customer. It cannot be cut-in, washed or worn. The client is responsible for mailing the unit back and will apply insurance or any other tracking method desired.

Returns should be mailed to:
TOPLACE USA
PO BOX 5
CIRCLE PINES, MN 55014
USA

Q: How can you do this for so much less than a hair club or salon?
A: We keep costs at a minimum since we don't have salons, a large staff, TV commercials, etc. We deal directly with the factory in China and demand only the best quality. Compare our units to ones costing $2,500 and more each. We have many clients that regularly post on our forum that have been on a contract with a high priced salon or hair club and have switched to TopLace and saved thousands of dollars - and are happier with the quality of our hair pieces.

Q: I'm with a hair club now - can you duplicate one of their units?
A: Yes. Just send it in and we will have the factory make an exact duplicate-we do it all the time.

Q: Do I have to sign a contract or agree to buy a specific number of hair pieces?
A: No. There are no requirements or contracts - buy only when you decide that you want to buy.

Q: How long can I expect a hair piece to last?
A: That depends on several factors including your lifestyle, frequency of washing, water hardness, etc.

Our clients have reported getting anywhere from one month to over a year with our units. Under normal wearing conditions our customers typically get from 3-4 months from a unit before it's replaced.

Q: Do I need more than 1 unit?
A: Given the lead time to order a unit and the possibility of an emergency, we highly recommend having at least one backup unit to avoid being caught without a fresh unit.

Q: Where do I go for advice if I have a question?
A: You've got two excellent sources. First, Toplace has the largest public discussion forum for hair wearers in the world. You can perform a search of your question on the forum and see answers from experienced hair wearers that will provide you with their own personal experience. If you can't find anything pertaining to your question you can post the question yourself on the forum - and you'll have hair wearers around the world responding to your question. Also, you can call 1-888-9TOPLACE or (1-888-986-7522)number to speak to someone at Toplace to personally answer your questions.

Q: How do I know which base is right for me?
A: We list the advantages and disadvantages of each type of base in our Printable Order Guide. Many customers tell us that with our low prices they like to try several types of bases and see for themselves which bases they like best.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: Paypal is preferred but you may use Visa, MasterCard, Discover or AMEX Credit Card with our secure PayPal checkout - even if you do not have a PayPal account!

Q: Do you keep my specs on file for future orders?
A: Yes. With our electronic ordering system you create a Personal Account with your own password. You can access that account review the specs of prior orders and either order the same unit again or 'tweak' the specs on your last unit.

Q: How do I get my hair piece styled?
A: You have several options. We provide a list of experienced hair piece stylists throughout the country - just find one near you. Or you can ask your regular hair stylist if they are comfortable in styling a hair piece. You can also send your hair piece along with a photo of the hair style you'd like to our certified hair stylist, Debbie at Split Ends Salon. She will style it and mail it back to you. It will be fully styled with little or no blending needed. Many of our customers swear by this service.
